This week on Black on Black Cinema the crew discusses the 1973 political thriller, 'The Spook Who Sat By The Door' starring Lawrence Cook. Based on the controversial novel of the same name, the film takes a satirical, yet very relatable, look at what an uprising against the U.S. government would look like at the hands of highly trained Black Americans. The only Black man to be trained by the CIA decides to use his skills for the betterment of his people, and begins to fight back for freedom and justice for Black folks in America.
The film is a classic that has messages that not only resonate in 1973 but still do so today. Many lines can be drawn to the topics addressed head on in this film and the events of today. This is a must see film, and a must listen episode.
